IMPORTANT INFORMATION
We are excited to welcome you to the garden!
These guidelines are in place to protect your children. Ignoring them puts your child at risk and creates a severe liability for our organization and mission. We never want to be in the position of asking a family to leave, but if the rules are not followed, we will have no choice. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation. If you feel you cannot abide by these guidelines, please let us know, and we will offer your volunteer slot to another family.
Safety Rules (Must-Read and Acknowledge)
YOU MUST SUPERVISE YOUR CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES.
We are not a drop-off or childcare program. Children must remain in your line of sight and under your active supervision for the entire visit. Other volunteers cannot and will not take responsibility for your child. September is an active part of snake season in South Carolina, when young hatchlings—especially baby copperheads—begin to appear. Since we are outdoors, it is vital that you stay with your child at all times and remain aware of your surroundings.
Parking Lot Safety
The parking lot is an active space with cars and trucks moving in and out. Children must not run behind or between cars. Please hold hands and walk with them at all times.
Garden Shed Safety
Children are not allowed in the garden sheds. They contain tools, fertilizers, and other hazardous materials.
Closed-Toe Shoes Required
No sandals or flip-flops are allowed. Volunteers without proper footwear will not be able to participate.
No Running in the Garden
Walking only, to prevent accidents.
Rocks Stay Put
Rocks must not be moved or thrown. They are a hazard during mowing.
Handle Tools with Care
All sharp tools must be pointed downward. Children under seven may only use tools with close adult supervision.
Restricted Areas
The shed and the area behind it are for adults only.
Nature Awareness
The garden is home to bees, wasps, ants, lizards, spiders—and snakes. Please remind children to be respectful and mindful of wildlife.
Arrival & Departure
Please arrive 5 minutes before our volunteer workday starts so we can meet and set the day's plan.
If your plans change, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your slot to another family.
Weather Note
In case of rain, we will let you know of cancellation via email.
